Automobile production volume increased worldwide overall, with increases in Japan, the Americas, Europe, and Asia, despite a decrease in China. Two-wheeled vehicle production volume increased worldwide in Japan, the Americas, Europe, Asia and China. Given this market environment, our group's automotive equipment business showed signs of recovery from the previous cumulative accounting period, however was affected in this accounting period by a decrease in automobile production due to a shortage of semiconductors and soaring procurement costs for resin materials and other components, etc. As a result, sales for the automotive equipment business for this second-quarter consolidated cumulative period were 140,659 million yen (up 14.7% from the same period of the previous year), and operating income was 4,557 million yen (up 76.7% from the same period of the previous year). By applying revenue recognition accounting standards, we posted an increase in sales of 134 million yen and increase in operating income of 15 million yen.

As for markets related to this segment (whose main products are LEDs, liquid crystal displays, etc.), the on-board equipment market, LED lighting market, and amusement market saw growth, while the AV home appliance market remained flat. Given this market environment, our group's electronic components business showed signs of recovery from the previous cumulative accounting period, however was affected in this accounting period by a decrease in automobile production due to a shortage of semiconductors. As a result, sales for the electronic components business for this second-quarter consolidated cumulative period were 23,310 million yen (up 34.8% from the same period of the previous year), and operating income was 2,863 million yen (up 235.4% from the same period of the previous year). By applying revenue recognition accounting standards, we posted an increase in sales of 27 million yen and increase in operating income of 13 million yen.

As for markets related to this segment (whose main products are LED lighting, LCD backlights, strobes, control panels, LED light control boards, etc.), the automotive interior market, LED lighting market, OA market, camera market and PC and tablet market saw growth. In this market environment, our group's applied electronic products business showed signs of recovery from the previous cumulative accounting period, however, sales in LCD backlights fell due to a drop in special demand by PCs. In addition, LED light control boards, etc. were affected by a decrease in automobile production due to a shortage of semiconductors over this accounting period. As a result, sales for the applied electronic products business for this second-quarter consolidated cumulative period were 45,674 million yen (up 11.8% from the same period of the previous year) and operating income was 5,382 million yen (down 0.5% from the same period of the previous year). By applying revenue recognition accounting standards, we posted an increase in sales of 31 million yen and increase in operating income of 4 million yen.
